If you have lamps at home
If you have all the necessary lighting equipment at home (chandeliers, lamps, wall lamps, floor lamps, etc.) and you want to reduce your electricity bills, the first thing to do is to replace the lamps with economical ones. The most popular option is the e27 LED lamp. It has a so-called classic wide threaded base that fits most chandeliers and lamps.
LED lamps provide high-quality lighting, while consuming several times less electricity than traditional incandescent lamps and most fluorescent lamps. For comparison, a 15-watt LED bulb provides the same amount of light as a regular 120-watt bulb.
LED bulbs are not only economical, but also have a number of other advantages. In particular, these bulbs have high fire safety characteristics and an extended service life. LED bulbs last up to 100,000 hours, and their service life does not decrease due to frequent switching on/off. They reach their full brightness instantly, without requiring warm-up time. In addition, unlike glass lamps, LED lamps are more resistant to impact and are much less likely to break. They do not contain any harmful substances such as mercury or lead, so they can be disposed of as normal household waste.
How to choose LED bulbs
LED lamps are available in
- different power (from 1.5 to 40 W);
- different glow colors (cold, neutral, warm);
- different shapes (pear-shaped, corn, spherical, candle-shaped, cylindrical, etc;)
- with different sockets (E27, E14, E40, G13, G5, GU5.3, GU10).
LED lamps can operate at temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +50 °C, so they are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. When choosing lamps for outdoor lighting, you should consider their resistance to moisture. The degree of protection is indicated by the letters IP. If you plan to install the lamp under the roof, you will need lamps and a luminaire with at least IP23, and IP44 for wall mounting. Luminaires located on the ground require strong protection against moisture, dirt, dust and mechanical damage. For such purposes, choose lamps marked with IP65. For water bodies, pools or ponds where there is a risk of large amounts of water entering, use IP67 LED lamps.
LED lamps should not be used in rooms where dimmers are installed. This significantly reduces the service life of the lamps. Use special lamps designed for dimmers. They are more expensive, but they will serve well.
If you are planning to buy LED lights
If you decide to replace your lighting fixtures with modern ones, pay attention to LED lamps. They are already equipped with lamps that use electricity sparingly. At the same time, they have an original design that will suit a modern interior.
When choosing an LED luminaire, pay attention to its shape, size, purpose, light temperature, power, and installation method (surface-mounted or recessed). You also need to choose equipment for a specific room: neutral light from a ceiling lamp and additional light sources near the mirror are suitable for the bathroom; soft light is needed in the bedroom and children’s room; cold bright light is needed for the office and study; for the living room, depending on the style of the interior, soft warm for classic or cold for modern; in the kitchen, bright light is needed above the work surface, and in the dining table area, it can be softer.
Often, LED lamps are equipped with various smart technologies and come with a remote control that allows you to not only remotely control the switching on and off of the light, but also choose various lighting programs.
